PT Pindad's Director of Technology and Development, Sigit P. Santosa said PT Pindad in collaboration with France's Safran Electronics & Defense produced the MK-82 smart bomb, the Highly Agile Modular Munition Extended Range (HAMMER) Smart Bomb. This bomb will later be used by Rafale fighter jets.
"The ability to develop products and also produce the MK-82 used in the Rafale is one of the factors for us to cooperate with Safran, a manufacturer that has a high reputation in the defense sector with its smart guided bomb," said Sigit in a written statement, Thursday, April 14. 2022.
Indonesia recently announced the purchase of 42 French Rafale fighter aircraft. The signing of the contract was carried out in the presence of the Minister of the French Armed Forces Florence Parly, the Minister of Defense of the Republic of Indonesia Prabowo Subianto on 10 February.
Pindad was appointed as one of the lead integrators in the purchase of the fighter aircraft. This is in accordance with the mandate of Law Number 16 of 2012 concerning the Defense Industry that the lead integrator of defense products must be domestic.
"And we are building a stronger defense ID capability and establishing strategic networking partnerships with global partners of which Safran is one of them," said Sigit.
Pindad will produce the body and contents of the MK-2 smart bomb explosive. Safran as a guidance kit provider. Other collaborations include optronics, control systems, and others that will be explored together.
"Safran is very serious about collaborating on the development of the MK-82 smart guided bomb with Pindad," said Sigit, adding that Pindad is targeting to have the ability to produce smart bombs.
