Jokowi and Australian PM Discuss IDR 2 Trillion Infrastructure Fund

Australia and Indonesia have been close partners on trade, development, education and regional security issues.

The Australian Embassy in Indonesia reports that Australian Prime Minister Anthony Albanese met with President Joko Widodo or Jokowi at the Bogor Presidential Palace, West Java today, Monday, June 6, 2022.

Jokowi and Anthony discussed a number of important issues such as bilateral trade and investment, cooperation in the climate and energy fields, as well as regional and global interests.

In addition, what is important in this visit is the desire of both parties to unlock the potential of the Indonesia-Australia Comprehensive Economic Partnership Agreement.

One of the things discussed at the meeting was the issue of an Aus$200 million infrastructure fund (approximately IDR 2 trillion) prepared by the Australian government.

"Including to continue the infrastructure and climate funds proposed by the Government of A$200 million with Indonesia," the Australian Embassy in Indonesia said in a statement on Sunday, June 5, 2022.

Albanese is Australia's elected leader of the Labor Party who was sworn in on 23 May. He said his visit showed how important Indonesia was in their government.

"Indonesia is one of our closest neighbours, which is why I am committed to visiting as soon as possible," he said.

Anthony Albanese said the two countries have a long history of cooperation and friendship. Albanese also said the government would work closely with Indonesia to deepen this relationship.

He also said that Australia and Indonesia had been close partners on issues of trade, development, education and regional security. So during this visit, Albanese hopes to build further relations between the two countries.

"This includes revitalizing our trade relations and promoting cooperation in the fields of climate, infrastructure and energy," he said. (antara)
