Government Officially Sets 1 Ramadan 1443 H to Fall on Sunday 3 April 2022

In the Isbat Session, the reckoning and rukyat methods were used to see directly the presence of the new moon.

The Indonesian government has officially set the start of Ramadan 1443 Hijriyah to coincide on Sunday, April 1, 2022.

This decision was taken in the Isbat (Determination) Session of the Beginning of Ramadan 1443 Hijriyah which was held by the Ministry of Religion at the Auditorium of HM Rasjidi, the Office of the Ministry of Religion, Jakarta, Friday (1/4/2022).

The session was attended by representatives of Islamic organizations, Commission VIII DPR RI representatives of ambassadors from friendly countries, astronomical institutions, experts, and the ranks of the Ministry of Religion. The decision was read by the Minister of Religion, Yaqut Cholil Qaumas.

In the Isbat Session, the reckoning and rukyat methods were used to see directly the presence of the new moon. These two methods, not two methods are confronted or opposed to each other.

"Both of them complement each other equally important. The followers must have the power of both," he said.

He explained that a number of regional Ministry of Religion reports 101 rukyat points in 34 provinces, of which all reported not seeing the new moon.

"Based on the reckoning, the position of the hilal is above the horizon but the new MABIMS and rukyatul hilal reports have not been fulfilled, by consensus, 1 Ramadan 1443 H falls on Sunday, April 3, 2022 AD)," he said. (Kemenag, antara)
