BNPT Calls Indonesian People Known as Generous, Potentially Used by Terrorists

"Indonesia in the survey is known for its very high level of generosity which has the potential to be exploited by terrorist network groups to be exploited and abused."

Director of Prevention of the National Counterterrorism Agency (BNPT) Brigadier General Ahmad Nurwakhid asked the public to be careful and selective when giving infaq funds.

Previously, the Special Detachment (Densus) 88 Anti-terror of the National Police won a student from Universitas Brawijaya (UB) with the initials IA who was suspected of raising funds for the terrorist group Islamic State of Iraq and Syria (ISIS).

"Indonesia in the survey is known for its very high level of generosity which has the potential to be exploited by terrorist network groups to be exploited and abused," said Nurwakhid, Friday (27/5/2022).

Nurwakhid added that the clarity and track record of charities and donations must be considered. Don't let the good intentions of the community be misused for evil by others.

Nurwakhid said that funding for terrorism cannot be ignored.

"Logistics plays an important role in terror networks and acts. The sources of funding are varied, either through the misuse of infaq, charity boxes, fa'i (robbery), and funding from international networks," he said.

Furthermore, said Nurwakhid, the terrorist group Jamaah Ansharut Daulah (JAD) which is an ISIS network in Indonesia is now not only collecting funds through conventional infaq.

Nurwakhid said the terrorists collected donations under the guise of humanitarian action.

"Also utilizing digital technology through dissemination on social media under the guise of social donations and humanitarian actions," added Nurwakhid. (antara, kompas)
