23 Countries Have Stopped Exports, Jokowi Asks To Be Aware Of The Threat Of A Food Crisis

Jokowi said Indonesia had not imported rice since three years ago.

President Joko Widodo or Jokowi asked all parties to be aware of the threat of a food crisis that is currently happening globally. He said as many as 23 countries have stopped their food production exports.

Jokowi revealed that in early 2022, there were only about three countries that had done this. However, because the threat of a food crisis is getting stronger, that number continues to grow until it reaches dozens of countries.

This was conveyed in his remarks at the official opening of the XXXII National Congress and the Deliberative Assembly of the XXXI Members of the Indonesian Catholic Student Association (PMKRI) which were held at the Samarinda Convention Hall, East Kalimantan, Wednesday (22/6/2022).

"Be careful with what's called food, be careful. Today 23 countries have both stopped. I don't want our rice to be exported to other countries, stop wheat, save everything because everything is in case," said Jokowi.

Due to the threat of a food crisis, Jokowi said that there is a prediction that as many as 13 million people will be hungry by 2022. The Head of State invites the public to be grateful that Indonesia does not lack food.

Even for rice, Jokowi said that Indonesia had not imported any more since three years ago.

Not only rice, there are various kinds of alternative food ingredients that can be used by the community. Such as sago, sorghum, porang to tubers.

"I just want to convey to the community to the people that the current name should not allow abandoned land to be planted with nothing, plant it, which is easy," he pleaded.
