Indonesia plays a very important role in the supply of raw materials for world nickel products.
Indonesia has nickel reserves of 72 million tons or 52% of the world's total nickel reserves in 2020. Vice President (Vice President) Ma'ruf Amin said Indonesia has an important role in the nickel industry.
"This means that Indonesia plays a very important role in the supply of raw materials for world nickel products," said the Vice President during the laying of the first stone at the Nusantara Industri Sejati Industrial Estate (NIS) North Konawe, Southeast Sulawesi (Sultra), Thursday (19/5/2022).
Meanwhile, the Vice President revealed that until April 2022, the Ministry of Industry noted that there were 138 industrial estate companies spread across Java, Kalimantan, Maluku, Papua, Nusa Tenggara, Sulawesi and Sumatra.
"The increase in the number and area of land for this industrial area should be appreciated. Meanwhile, specifically for smelters, the government has targeted 53 facilities to operate until 2024," said the Vice President.
"Other information that I have obtained, North Konawe Regency has the largest Mining Business License Area in Southeast Sulawesi Province. However, so far the downstream process has not been maximized," he said.
Therefore, the Vice President said the construction of the Nusantara Industri Sejati Industrial Estate was an effort to optimize the added value of downstreaming, create jobs, and encourage the regional economy. (antara)
