Two children in Sumatra reportedly died after showing symptoms of acute hepatitis.
The number of children who died allegedly due to acute hepatitis increased by two. With this increase, the total number of children who died now stands at six.
A total of two children in Sumatra reportedly died after showing symptoms of acute hepatitis. The Solok Health Office, West Sumatra, reported that a 2-month-old baby was suspected of having confirmed this disease and died.
A few hours later, a 2-year-old child in Medan, North Sumatra, was pronounced dead. The patient was also reported to have symptoms referring to mysterious hepatitis.
"But, to make sure this patient is infected with mysterious hepatitis, we have to do a test in Jakarta," said Head of the North Sumatra Health Service Ismail Lubis quoted from Coconuts Jakarta, Wednesday (11/5/2022).
Minister of Health (Menkes) Budi Gunadi Sadikin explained that the government had detected 15 suspected cases of acute hepatitis since April 27, 2022. Currently, the government is collaborating with the World Health Organization (WHO) and other affected countries to determine the cause of the disease.
Minister of Health Budi in his presentation also appealed to the public, especially parents, to ensure the cleanliness of their children.
Diligently washing hands and not eating carelessly, and not using eating utensils together are preventative measures that can be taken.
Until now, the cause of acute hepatitis is unknown. However, experts still believe in theory that adenovirus is thought to be the cause, considering that many patients with this disease are adenovirus positive. (antara, sindonews)
