The Ministry of Manpower has prepared steps to respond to reports of 18 Indonesian citizens who died in detention in Sabah from January 2021 to March 2022.
Secretary General of the Ministry of Manpower (Kemenaker) Anwar Sanusi. responding to the findings of 18 Indonesian citizens (WNI) who died at the immigration detention center in Sabah, Malaysia. The Ministry of Manpower promised to provide more detailed information about this heartbreaking case.
''We are coordinating. To get accurate information," he said after attending the Graduation Period I Academic Year 2021/2022 at the Open University (UT) in South Tangerang on Tuesday (28/6).
Anwar said the information they got had to be accurate. So that later can convey more detailed information to the public.

He said the Ministry of Manpower did not only cooperate with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (Kemenlu). But also with the Indonesian Migrant Workers Protection Agency (BP2MI). Anwar has also contacted the Labor Attaché personnel in Malaysia.
Anwar did not explain in more detail what response they were preparing to follow up on the deaths of the 18 Indonesian citizens. He only confirmed that the majority of Indonesian citizens in Sabah were Indonesian migrant workers (PMI) working in oil palm plantations.
As is known, information about 18 Indonesian citizens who died in immigration detention in Sabah was revealed by the Sovereign Migrant Workers Coalition (KBMB). The case came from the Tawau Immigration Detention Center, Sabah, Malaysia. The death toll is calculated from January 2021 to March 2022.
Anwar further said that the Ministry of Manpower is currently encouraging Indonesian migrant workers (PMI) in the domestic sector not to leave education.
