Ministry of Health Records 50 Percent of BA.4 and BA.5 Patients Have Booster Vaccinations

1,179 BA.4 and BA.5 cases reported as of 4 July 2022, 599 of them had already received the third dose.

Spokesman for the Ministry of Health (Kemenkes) Mohammad Syahril said as many as 50 percent of patients infected with the SARS-CoV-2 Omicron mutation with the new subvariants BA.4 and BA.5 in Indonesia had been injected with booster doses of the Covid-19 vaccine.

Syahril added that of the 1,179 BA.4 and BA.5 cases reported as of July 4, 2022, 599 of them had received the third dose. Then 260 people have received two doses, 15 people have received one dose of vaccine, 30 people have not been vaccinated at all, two people have received four doses, and 273 others are still in the identification stage.

Syahril noted that of the 1,179 cases, 580 people underwent self-isolation. Then, 77 others were hospitalized, and another 522 patients were still in the identification stage.

Of the thousands of cases of the two subvariances, 527 of them were male and 652 were female. The distribution of patients based on age mostly occurred in the productive age of 18-59 years as many as 873 people.

The remaining 142 people from the age of 6-17 years, 111 people are elderly citizens or aged 60 years and over, 52 are children under the age of 6 years, and one patient is still in the identification stage.

Syahril also noted that the most patients experienced mild clinical symptoms, namely 517 people. Then 96 other patients had moderate symptoms, 36 had no symptoms, two had severe symptoms, one was critical, and three died. The rest are still in the identification stage.

The most common symptom found in patients is cough. Then runny nose, fever, sore throat, headache, dizziness, vomiting, anosmia or not being able to smell, to shortness of breath. (Kemenkes)
