Indonesian Minister of Health Budi Gunadi Sadikin revealed the latest developments in acute hepatitis cases in Indonesia. The Minister of Health stated that his party is currently investigating 15 suspected cases of mysterious acute hepatitis.
"So far, there are 15 (suspected) cases in Indonesia. In the world, the biggest ones are in the UK with 115 cases, Italy, Spain and the United States," said Budi Gunadi Sadikin when delivering a virtual press statement followed by the Presidential Secretariat's YouTube in Jakarta, Monday ( 9/5/2022).
The Minister of Health added that three suspected acute hepatitis in Indonesia were reported four days after the announcement of an Extraordinary Event (KLB) by the World Health Organization (WHO) on April 23, 2022.
On April 27, 2022, Indonesia followed up on the KLB statement by making a circular so that all hospitals and health offices in each region carried out surveillance of the case.
"April 30, Singapore announced its first case and so far in Indonesia there have been 15 cases," he said.
The Ministry of Health has coordinated with the US and UK Centers for Disease Control (CDC) regarding the situation. In conclusion, it is not yet certain what virus causes acute hepatitis in children under the age of 16 years.
"Now research is being carried out jointly by Indonesia and WHO as well as America and the UK for rapid detection," he said.
Minister of Health Budi said the possibility of the virus suspected of being associated with acute hepatitis was Adenovirus strain 41.
