Jokowi Doesn't Want To Hurry Up To Allow People To Take Off Masks

The government will be careful in implementing policies from pandemic to endemic.

President Joko Widodo (Jokowi) does not want to rush to allow people to take off their masks during their daily activities.

"I don't want to be like other countries, don't wear masks. There is still a transition, about six months," said Jokowi at the Jakarta International E-Prix Circuit (JIEC), Jakarta, Monday (25/6).

Jokowi said that later people would not need to wear masks outside. However, masks must still be worn indoors.

Jokowi added that Indonesia has a lot of experience with easing regulations. The government will be careful in implementing policies from pandemic to endemic.

"There are stages that we don't need to rush because whatever we have experience, what kind of Delta time, what kind of Omicron time," he said.

Previously, a number of epidemiologists suggested easing the rules because the transmission of Covid-19 had decreased. The government has also begun to examine the possibility of easing the rules.

Minister of Health Budi Gunadi Sadikin has also mentioned the possibility of transitioning the Covid-19 pandemic into an endemic one. However, he has not confirmed when the transition will begin.

"[Indonesia's Covid-19 epidemic] if that's the decision, it's up to the President, but we also pay attention to other countries and what kind of WHO," said Budi in Jakarta, Tuesday (19/4). (antara, cnnindo)
