Even though exports are opened, the government will continue to monitor and monitor closely so that supplies are met and affordable.
President Joko Widodo alias Jokowi announced that he would re-open exports of CPO or crude palm oil and cooking oil on May 23, 2022. The policy is claimed to consider the sustainability of the fate of 17 million workers in the palm oil industry, including farmers, workers, and other supporting staff.
"Even though exports are opened, the government will continue to monitor and monitor closely so that supplies are fulfilled and affordable," said Jokowi in an official statement, Thursday, May 19, 2022.
The government previously banned the export of CPO and cooking oil on April 28, 2022. This policy was taken to maintain price stability and domestic cooking oil supply.
Jokowi said that based on field observations and reports from various parties, the supply of cooking oil continued to increase. The national need for bulk cooking oil of around 194 thousand tons per month has been fulfilled.
“After the April export ban, the supply of 211,000 tons per month exceeds our monthly national needs. In addition, there is a decrease in the average national cooking oil price," said Jokowi.
As for before the export ban, the national average price for bulk cooking oil was around Rp 19,800. However, after export was banned, the price dropped to Rp 17,200-17,600.
"Although there are some areas where the price of cooking oil is relatively high, I believe that in the next few weeks the price of bulk cooking oil will reach the price we set because availability is more abundant," said Jokowi. (setpres, tempo)
