The government has formed a PMK Task Force that will handle PMK like a Covid-19 handling mechanism
Coordinating Minister for the Economy Airlangga Hartarto said the government would prepare compensation funds for cattle breeders who were destroyed due to foot and mouth disease (PMK), amounting to Rp 10 million per one cow.
"Especially for animals that are destroyed or forcibly killed, the government has prepared compensation, especially for MSME breeders, amounting to Rp. 10 million per cow," said Airlangga after attending an internal meeting with President Jokowi regarding the handling of FMD in livestock, at the Bogor Presidential Palace, West Java, Thursday (23/6/2022).
Airlangga said that in an internal meeting chaired by the President, it was agreed to restrict the movement of livestock, especially cattle, in areas affected by FMD, to other areas.
"We call the sub-district level areas affected by nail and mouth disease as red areas. These red areas are in 1,765 of 4,614 sub-districts or 38 percent," he explained.
In the meeting it was also agreed that the procurement of this year's PMK vaccine will be 29 million doses, all of which will be financed with funds from the Covid-19 Handling Committee and National Economic Recovery (KPCPEN).
Head of BNPB Suharyanto as Head of the PMK Handling Task Force said he would soon work together with elements of the task force from the Coordinating Ministry for the Economy, Ministry of Agriculture, Ministry of Home Affairs, and the TNI/Polri.
The PMK Task Force will handle PMK like the Covid-19 handling mechanism, which is still running, including by holding coordination meetings in the regions, especially PMK red areas. (antara, photo: illustration)
