Covid-19 Cases Rise, IDI Urges the Public to Return to Wearing Masks Outdoors

IDI recommends that masks be used indoors and outdoors because there is a tendency for an increase in Covid-19 cases.

Chairman of the Indonesian Doctors Association (IDI) M Adib Khumaidi appealed to the public to return to wearing masks when in open spaces. Because the daily cases of Covid-19 are starting to rise again.

"We from IDI suggest that masks be used, both inside and outside the room. Because of this there is a tendency to increase cases," Adib told reporters, Sunday (3/7/2022).

To note, after more than two months the daily cases of Covid-19 were always below 2,000 per day, on June 24 the daily cases again touched the number of 2,000 cases per day.

Daily cases are predicted to continue to increase to 19,000 cases per day during the peak of transmission of the Omicron BA.4 and BA.5 subvariants at the end of July.

Meanwhile, Health Minister Budi Gunadi Sadikin indicated that the public may still not use masks in open spaces that are not crowded. "The masks are used indoors and outdoors in conditions like now (crowded)," Budi said when interviewed by dozens of journalists in Jakarta, Sunday. (antara)
