The new subvariant Omicron BA.2.75 was originally discovered in India and has now spread to 15 countries.

Minister of Health Budi Gunadi Sadikin on Monday (18/7/2022) revealed that the new Omicron Covid-19 subvariant, namely BA.2.75, had been detected in Indonesia, namely one in Bali and two in Jakarta.

This new subvariant of Omicron was originally discovered in India and has now spread to 15 other countries.

"The cases in Bali are due to foreign arrivals, two are in Jakarta. Most likely we are looking for local transmissions from where," Budi said during a press conference after a limited meeting on the evaluation of PPKM at the Presidential Office, Jakarta, Monday.

Previously reported, the new subvariant of Omicron namely BA.2.75 is triggering the concern of experts. WHO labeled this subvariance as a variant of concern lineage under monitoring which means it is too early to know whether the BA.2.75 mutation will, like the other variants, pose a threat to public health.
