Director of Prevention of the National Counterterrorism Agency (BNPT), Brigadier General Pol R Ahmad Nurwahid said the politicization of religion or using religion in the political arena is one of the main triggers for the emergence of radicalism and terrorism.
"Radicalism and terrorism, the root of the problem is ideology. The main trigger is the politicization of religion, so it is very relevant to activities like this, we make a joint pledge, sign an integrity pact to face the 2024 general election in the future, there is no such thing as politicization of religion," said Brigadier General Pol R Ahmad Nurwakhid in a written statement received in Jakarta, Saturday (4/6/2022).
According to him, whatever the argument or reason, religion is the word of God, so it must be a source of inspiration for the benefit of all parties.
"So the politicization of religion is the main trigger for radicalism and terrorism. And it must be eliminated," said Nurwahid when he was a resource person at the 2022 Public Discussion event themed Against Radical Groups in Indonesian Political Dynamics Ahead of the 2024 Election, which was held by the Tri Bhakti Pratista Foundation at Advocafe, Purwokerto, Friday. Nurwahid explained, Indonesia as a very diverse country which of course also has a very large potential for conflict, so people must be careful and not easily politicized.
"Our country has the biggest potential for conflict in the world. In Arabia, only a few ethnicities and ethnic groups are divided into various countries. The Indonesian nation? There are 1,300 more ethnic groups, spread over 17,000 islands, there are six religions, the sects are also "There are so many and these can be integrated into the Unitary State of the Republic of Indonesia. Imagine how big the potential conflict is, you have to be careful and guard it," he said.
