BNPT Reveals Terrorism Victims in Indonesia are Increasing, Especially in Papua

The 2022 Global Terrorism Index reports a decline in the number of victims of terrorism globally. However, in Indonesia there is an increase.

The Head of the National Counterterrorism Agency (BNPT) Commissioner General (Komjen) of Police Boy Rafli Amar said that based on the 2022 Global Terrorism Index data, there was an increase in victims of these crimes in Indonesia.

"In Indonesia there is an increase in terrorism due to violence, especially in the Papua region in 2021," said Head of BNPT Komjen Police Boy Rafli Amar while attending an international day to commemorate and honor victims of terrorism in Jakarta, Sunday (21/8/2022). .

The 2022 Global Terrorism Index reports on the impact of terrorism on a country including the number of victims and deaths, a decline in the number of victims globally. However, in Indonesia there is an increase.

Boy said it was also in accordance with what had been released by the government that violent acts of armed criminal groups (KKB) in Papua were categorized as crimes of terrorism.

Nevertheless, the government continues to take serious, integrated and sustainable steps in handling victims of terrorism. Including, considering the impact of terrorist attacks that are multidimensional and long-term.

BNPT has conducted various programs involving terrorism survivors over the past several years. One of them is collaborating with the Witness and Victim Protection Agency (LPSK) to provide medical, psychosocial, psychological assistance, to the distribution of compensation and compensation.

In addition, BNPT also initiated a national gathering that brought together former terrorism convicts and terrorism survivors. (antara)
