The BKKBN will deploy 200 thousand Family Assistance Teams to reduce stunting rates.
Head of the National Population and Family Planning Agency (BKKBN) Hasto Wardoyo stated that the number of families at risk of stunting in Indonesia based on the 2021 family data collection (PK 21) reached 21.9 million.
To overcome this, the BKKBN will deploy 600 thousand personnel who are members of the 200 thousand Family Assistance Teams (TPK) to reduce the stunting rate to 14 percent by 2024.
Hasto in the mobile TPK standby said that 600 thousand personnel are tasked with providing counseling, facilitating referral services, and facilitating the provision of social assistance and conducting surveillance to target families at risk of stunting.
The number of families at risk of stunting must be kept to a minimum. Let's work optimally," said Hasto during the Mobile TPK Alert Call at the Subang District Square, West Java Province, Thursday (12/5/2022).
Based on data from the Indonesian Toddler Nutrition Status Survey (SSGBI) in 2021, the prevalence of stunting is currently still at 24.4 percent. Hasto said this figure is still higher than the WHO standard of 20 percent and far from the 2024 target, which is 14 percent.
The 600 thousand TPK personnel were recruited by village heads from all over Indonesia. The selection of TPK elements was in line with their ability to assist their families and their closeness to their families. Midwives, have the ability to provide services, and at the same time as field coordinators.
Then the PKK element, as a facilitator/mediator, who has the network and ability to build good cross-sectoral relationships in the field. Then, family planning cadres, who are experts in implementing personal IEC and data collection.
Based on the 2021 family data collection conducted by more than 700 thousand data cadres, they managed to record 66,207,139 heads of families in 33 provinces and mapped the families identified as families at risk of stunting as many as 21,906,625 families. (bkkbn, antara)
